Bible Study

On alternate Wednesdays, after the midday communion service, a simple lunch of soup and cheese is followed by a period of Bible Study of 30 to 40 minutes. We end with prayers round the table, remembering those for whom we have concerns, those who are absent, and the life and witness of our church. It is a gentle group currently numbering about 8 people. We welcome anybody who would like to join us, for a single, occasional, or regular session.

We have in the past worked through Revelation, several of the Epistles, the Gospels, and Acts. We consider the passages, sometimes just a few verses, in relation to the underlying spiritual meaning, as well as the historical context and the links with other parts of the Bible. We all enter into the discussions and share our thoughts. We are currently studying The Gospel of St John, please join us.

Lunch Group

The monthly lunches are held on the third Thursday of the month in the Community Area of the church. We have a team of helpers for the kitchen, drivers for lifts, and help from Holland Park School students for the infirm. We cater for 40 per session and 60 for our Christmas Tea Party. Each month we have a different theme such as Wimbledon tennis, royal occasions and of course Saints Days. The lunch is cooked at one of two alternating local restaurants and is of a correspondingly high standard. We look for a voluntary contribution of £3 towards costs. Open to all over 60 who live on their own. Please contact Minh-Tam Janssens for an invitation. 07712006300 or minhtam.janssens@gmail.com.

Meditation Group

This group meets in the side chapel in the south transept of the church on Mondays at 6pm and finishes about 6.50pm . It started under the leadership of Kim Nataraja in 2001 following the setting up of a week of guided prayer by the Vicar for those interested. Kim is a spiritual director who is involved with the World Community for Christian Meditation.

“The important aim in Christian meditation is to allow God’s mysterious and silent presence within us to become more and more not only a reality but the reality which gives meaning ,shape and purpose to everything that we do, everything that we are” (John Main). The method used is first to become relaxed, then to listen to a short reading from John Main’s book ‘Stillness into Silence’ and having emptied our minds we repeat our chosen mantra in silence throughout a period of 25 minutes. The session ends with a repetition of the reading and a final prayer. Anyone is welcome to attend, and for those coming for the first time a short explanation is given.
